Arizona City

"The Desert Haven on the Golden Corridor"

Forty-four years and only 6000 residents doesn’t sound like much growth for a community that was planned in the 1960s to hold 30,000 by the late 1980s. The population of Arizona City got off to a slow start, grew slowly for many years, and then mushroomed from 1940 residents in 1990 to 4385 in 2000. This growth continues today as an estimated 1600 more residents have moved into this unincorporated community during the past four years.

With an estimated population approaching 6000 and projections for continued rapid growth, residents are beginning to understand that they must come together in a spirit of congeniality and shared purpose to consider the challenges of growth and the future direction of their community.

The first major effort by a third-party to look at the future of Arizona City began in August of 2004 when the University of Arizona School of Planning, in contract with Pinal County Planning and Development Services, opened a five-month study of Arizona City. This study was initiated by the Arizona City Focused Future organization as a way to obtain a valid and unbiased profile of Arizona City’s assets, liabilities, and possibilities. The study, which will be published in March 2005, will provide factual information and recommended strategies to help Arizona City residents develop informed choices to meet the challenges of today and to plan for appropriate governance, and community and economic development in the future.

Arizona City nestles amid scenic desert mountains halfway between Phoenix and Tucson. Located along Arizona’s rapidly developing "Golden Corridor", this planned community offers visitors and residents wide-open spaces with the friendliness of a small community and the convenience of nearby metropolitan amenities.

A wide choice of amenities, recreation, activities, clubs and organizations are available, and include:

A fire department with an efficient EMT rescue team and a substation for    the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, both located in the center of town.

• Close to Central Arizona College for continuing education classes. Classes are also available for arts and crafts, hiking, pottery, etc.

• A local market, beauty shop, banking, doctor and medical services, eateries, real estate offices and other business services.

• Two factory outlet malls with over 85 stores are located 10 - 15 miles away.

• An established 18-hole championship public golf course.

• An established library with over 12,000 titles.

• Over 90 miles of paved, congestion-free streets to walk, hike or bike on.

• A choice of churches.

• A variety of living accommodations area available in Arizona City, from apartments, condominiums, and rental homes, to homes available for sale from reasonably priced to luxury living.

• A 324 space RV Park located only 5 blocks from the golf course.

• A 48-acre man-made lake for fishing and sailing.

• And our newest addition, opened August 2002, an elementary school for grades K - 4th grades.
